Giving Thanks for the Monahan Family: Generous Members Inspire Us to Give Back

Every year around Thanksgiving, we love to say THANK YOU to our members who have donated Community Boxes throughout the year. This month, we were stunned to discover that one family donated A TON of Boxes. Kim and Thomas Monahan donated 106 COMMUNITY BOXES in 2015!

We are blown away by their commitment to supporting our community with Produce Box donations, and decided we needed to honor their family’s generous spirit with a $1,000 donation to a charity of their choice -- Doctors Without Borders.

“Growing up I remember my parents always donated to it, so it means a lot to me to continue that tradition,” said Kim. Doctors Without Borders was founded in the early 1970s, and is one of the world’s most well known independent humanitarian relief organizations. They provide medical assistance in areas around the world affected by natural and man-made disasters.

Kim and her husband joined The Produce Box more than a year ago because of their two young children. It was important to them to have fresh fruit and vegetables on the table, and The Produce Box made that easy. Living in Mebane allows them to get to know their local farmers year-round for strawberry and pumpkin picking with their kids, and has only strengthened their commitment to buying and eating local.

For Kim and her family, donating Community Boxes is a simple way to support people who can’t afford to buy fresh fruits and veggies.

“It’s not too hard to donate Boxes, and I know that people are getting healthy food and that’s what matters,” said Kim.

A big THANK YOU to the Monahans and the rest of our members who donated Community Boxes this year. It’s because of you that we’re able to supply so many local families and community organizations in need with fresh, healthy food. We love your generous hearts!
