Honoring a New Crop of Community Heroes

This summer, we kicked-off our second annual Hero Box program, where members can donate boxes to a designated organization each month. Over the past two months, we have donated nearly 365 Hero Boxes with 5,110 pounds of farm-fresh produce to the local fire and police stations and veterans’ organizations across the state. Our Produce Box members continue to amaze us every week with their generosity!

Giving back has always been a part of who we are at The Produce Box. For years, we have donated hundreds of pounds of bulk produce each week to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Then we realized that we could help even more by giving our members a chance to become directly involved. So, we started the Community Box and Hero Box programs in 2014 as a way to give back to those who serve their community and country. We want to recognize hard-working individuals, who like our farmers, live in our community and work very hard to make our lives better. The Hero Box is our way of saying thank you to those who have saved a life, taught our children, made our community a safer place, or gone above and beyond to help someone in need. Each box is paid for by our members and delivered by our area managers and neighborhood coordinators in cities around the state.

This year alone, the two programs have donated 1,452 donated boxes, with 20,328 pounds of local produce. For September, the campaign will take on a “back to school” theme, benefiting North Carolina teachers. The next time you place your order, consider adding a Community Box or Hero Box for someone in your community. We thank you so much for your support for the Heroes in our communities.
